The client

The brand AUVL enjoys a worldwide reputation in lamp technology and is internationally renowned for its competence, flexibility and customer proximity. For many years we have focused on developing and delivering high-quality UV lamps for various applications. With its production facilities near Dresden and Berlin, AUVL is one of the few brands in the lighting industry that relies on its German location. The brand AUVL and its products belong to the JW Holding GmbH group and benefits from production facilities, sales organizations in various countries and advanced logistics solutions.

The strategy

After establishing the company’s goals to create an interface that would serve it’s purpose, and with a target audience identified, it was time to shape and focus all the design elements towards meeting those goals. Making sure that design is properly supporting brand, content, and technology. Design was regularly reviewed to achieve the strategic goals, stay within budget, and be delivered on time.

Conclusion

The main gist of strategic design is simply common sense: you’re making something for a specific purpose, so of course it should fulfill that purpose through its design. But it is actually very easy to lose track of your goals and end up with something that is beautiful but ultimately doesn’t work in its context. It’s very easy to fall into the trap of implementing the latest design trends just because they look attractive or shaping a section of your website to resemble another website that you really like without first thinking about why you are doing it or how it fits in with the purpose of your project.

Avoiding falling into these traps by thinking through every design decision made. Why is this button this color? Why are we using tabs? Why should we use icons here? Once the habit of questioning every design decision is implemented, the whole process becomes much more focused.
